Assam: Massive Fire Breaks Out in a Floating Restaurant and Bar

GUWAHATI: On Sunday night, November 26, a massive fire broke out in a floating restaurant and bar in Guwahati's Fancy Bazar, leaving it reduced to ashes. The incident destroyed the property named Kaamakaazi which docks near the Lachit Ghat locality of the city.

Sources indicate that a sequence of explosions from cooking gas cylinders at the restaurant on the Brahmaputra River at Lachit Ghat may have increased the severity of the fire.

There have been no reported deaths or injuries from the incident, and the amount of property damage has not yet been determined. Fire and police department personnel responded to the scene quickly foon after receiving reports of the incident, and they were able to put out the fire.

According to a report, as many as 130 fire incidents took place in Assam in a particular priod of time. As many as 27 fire incidents took place in Guwahati during the period. Twelve fire incidents took place in the Tinsuka district and nine in the Nagaon district during the period. According to the Fire and Emergency Services, a devastating fire incident at Baghorbari Tiniali in the Panjabari area torched the kitchen and a bedroom in the flat of Debo Prasad Goswami in Santia Apartment last night. Fire tenders from Dispur Fire Service brought the fire under control.

In a similar incident, a fire broke out in the vegetable, clothes, and fish markets in Jagiroad at around 2 a.m. a few days back. The shops were burned down before a fire brigade vehicle arrived late from Morigaon. The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage were not known at the time of reporting. The Morigaon Commissioner, along with the officers concerned, visited the spot later. The residents are looking for a fire department office in Jagiroad, but they are deeply dissatisfied that an office has not been set up in Jagiroad.
